DOM

Entering the cabin, I step through the porch into the kitchen. She’s making a pot of tea in one of my hoodies and a pair of joggers that fit like leggings on her. She’s never looked so good as she does right now, in my kitchen, wearing my clothes.

“Hey, Red.”

“Hi, I borrowed your clothes. I hope that’s okay. Some of mine are still back at your place in the wash. Well, Dan’s place.”

I step towards her. My hand cups her cheek, tilting her face towards me. “They look a damn sight better on you than they do me.” My lips press against her button nose. “It’s a shame I’m going to rip them off.”

Her lip curls in the corner. “Not yet. Let me make you something to eat.”

“I have everything I want to feast on right here.” My lips trail her jaw, over the pulse in her neck, then along her shoulder as I pull the hoodie open as much as it will go.

“Have you eaten at all today?” Her brow furrows into something of concern. The last person to worry about whether I’d eaten was Ma. It feels good to have someone want to take care of me too, as much as I want to be the one taking care of her.

“I had breakfast.”

She scowls at me. “Dom, that was like ten hours ago. I’m making you something to eat.”

“Red wine and a chicken sandwich? Kind of an odd pairing don’t you think?” I rummage through the drawer for a corkscrew, knowing there has to be one in here somewhere.

“Like cheese toasties and milk?” She chews on her lip, watching me pop the cork. “How did you even know I drink this? You had it at your place too. I never told you my favourite brand of wine. Did you research my shopping habits, too?”

I pour us both a glass with a silent chuckle, but she doesn’t miss how my shoulders shake. “I saw an open bottle at your flat when we went that day.”

“Oh. That would make more sense.” Her giggle is the cutest fucking thing I’ve ever heard.

“I want to hear that laugh more often. I want this place to be full of laughter.” Jumping from the worktop, I kiss her button nose. “Just like it used to be.”

Her fingers run along the bristles on my jaw. “Did you grow up here?”

“It was Pa’s hunting lodge. We stayed here for the holidays. Though after Ma died, Pa moved us out here permanently.”

She hands me the plate with the sandwich she made for me. “How did she die?” Her voice chokes.

“Thanks, baby.” I take the plate, looking at the sandwich, reminding me of how Ma was always making sure I’d eaten. A pain stabs me in the
